RORATE CÆLI: Cardinal Ravasi calls for Dialogue with Freemasonry – Excerpts

Church Teaching:

Leo XIII > Encyclicals > Humanum Genus (April 20, 1884): ON FREEMASONRY

Declaration on Masonic Associations Nov 26, 1983 | CDF

Irreconcilability between Christian faith and Freemasonry

The multiple historical and philosophical problems which are hidden in these affirmations cannot be discussed here. It is certainly not necessary to emphasize that following the Second Vatican Council the Catholic Church too is pressing in the direction of collaboration between all men of good will. Nevertheless, becoming a member of Freemasonry decidedly exceeds this legitimate collaboration and has a much more important and final significance than this.

Can. 1374 A person who joins an association which plots against the Church is to be punished with a just penalty; however, a person who promotes or directs an association of this kind is to be punished with an interdict.

– Penny Catechism Q. 204. Is it sinful to belong to a Secret Society?

It is sinful to belong to any Secret Society that plots against the Church or State, or to any Society that by reason of its secrecy is condemned by the Church; for St. Paul says: ‘Let every soul be subject to the higher powers; he that resisteth the power resisteth the ordinance of God; and they that resist purchase to themselves damnation’ [Rom 13:1-2]

PSALM 2 | Handbook of Prayers | Rev. James Socias, Publisher

(Part of prayers after Mass or prayed on Tuesday as part of the devotions during the week).

This messianic psalm should inspire us with courage to persevere in spite of the attacks of the devil against the kingdom of God on earth. It also reminds us that our hope comes from our being children of God.

Ant. His kingdom is a kingdom of all ages, and all kings shall serve and obey him. (Easter Time Alleluia.)

1. Why this tumult among nations,
Among peoples this useless murmuring?

2. They arise, the kings of the earth;
princes plot against the LORD and his anointed.

3. “Come, let us break their fetters;
come, let us cast off their yoke.”

4. He who sits in heaven laughs;
The LORD is laughing them to scorn.

5. Then he will speak in his anger,
his rage will strike them in terror.

6. “It is I who have set up my king on Zion,
my holy mountain.”

7. I will announce the decree of the LORD:
The LORD said to me: “You are my Son.
It is I who have begotten you this day.

8. “Ask and I shall bequeath to you the nations,
put the ends of the earth in your possession.

9. “With a rod of iron you will break them
shatter them like a potter’s jar.”

10. Now, O kings, understand;
take warning, rulers of the earth;

11. Serve the LORD
with awe and trembling.

12. Pay him your homage, lest he be angry and you
perish, for suddenly his anger will blaze.
Blessed are they who put their trust in God.

13. Glory be …

Ant. His kingdom is a kingdom of all ages, and all kings shall serve and obey him. (Easter Time Alleluia.)

V. O LORD, hear my prayer.
R. And let my cry come to you.

Priests add:

V. The LORD be with you.
R. And with your spirit.

Let us pray
Almighty and eternal God, you have renewed all creation in your beloved Son, the king of the whole universe.
May all the people of the earth, now torn apart by the wound of sin, become subject to the gentle rule
of your only begotten Son: Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.
R. Amen.
